Rosebud School is a co-educational private institution, consisting of the pre-school, Junior Secondary, Senior Secondary UTME classes, Cambridge A-Levels, TOELF, and SAT all with CBT training for boys and girls between the ages of 3 and 18.  All applicants are required to complete and submit an application form before they can take the entrance examination.

Our aim is to provide first class academic, vocational and sporting facilities, human and material resources, top quality programmes in a learning friendly environment, that will ensure delivery of Holistic Education to our future leaders who will hold their own anywhere among their peers.

Since we are dedicated to providing, for our future leaders, opportunities that will enable them to achieve their highest mental, physical and moral potentials, we have the following as our core values:

  • 1. Can-do-it Spirit
  • 2. Creativity
  • 3. Hardwork
  • 4. Love and Care
  • 5. Pursuit of Excellence
  • 6. Quality of Character

Can-do-it Spirit Given that our God is never identified with impossibility, we at Rosebud School, have never shared the pessimistic view that certain things are quite impossible for humans to achieve. This is because we know pretty sure that where there is a will, there is indubitably a way. We do tell our students, as much as we can, that the success story of how our school was founded could have been elusive today if the founders’ passion had not been ruled be can-do-it-spirit. The moment an individual believes very strongly that he or she cannot achieve a goal, he or she is already a candidate in the examination hall of failure. We try to inspire confidence in our students, making them believe that with God, all things are possible.

Creativity has been defined in diverse ways by scholars based on their chosen interests. Andrew Horwitz, a specialist in art and cultural strategies, defined creativity as the art of dreaming or as the ability to harness artistic imagination and vision to effectively implement unexpected, innovative ideas. To us at Rosebud School, the importance of creativity in relation to global development can never be underestimated. It is unfortunate to see most nations suffer serious setbacks today because thinking heads refuse to manifest. Where creativity is missing, all the indices of backwardness will constitute a normal feature. Our students are exposed to a number of productive processes that help in bringing out the best in them. We make them rest assured that whatever they can dream or create, as Aristotle said, they can achieve.

We at Rosebud School subscribe, quite strongly, to the view that God, our creator, is a graphic illustration of the value of hardwork. He exuded this winsome value when He had to work for six consecutive days before He decided to rest on the seventh day. Hardwork, we believe, helps in bringing wholesome success on the path of humans. Francis Bacon once affirmed, “I will work hard; then opportunity will come”. We do our utmost in drawing the attention of our students to various icons who are worthy models in the terrain of hardwork. We stress the benefits that are associated with the value of hardwork.

Love, genuine love, is considered one of the most appealing values needed to keep our world moving. Relationship thrives on the canvas of Love. When there is love, peace reigns. The crisis of love has sparked off a number of crises in our society. In view of the foregoing, we, at Rosebud School, see much sense in propagating the value of love as well as making love spread among our students. We educate them so that they can be seen as loving God when they love their neighbours. We also tell them that all killings, maimings and other inhuman acts manifesting in our society are never borne out of love. To us, being one’s brother’s keeper is a virtue that all humans need to possess that all may care for one another.

In our school, we do not suffer mediocrity gladly. Our position is that an individual must strive towards attaining the height of excellence in whatever area his or her interest lies. This is why we try our best at not only celebrating excellence but also enshrining it. While we, as a school, have been celebrated by different organisations and bodies on account of excellence, we have equally succeeded in celebrating people {Our students inclusive} on the grounds of excellence. We instil the value of excellence in our students, using the means of established motivational speakers who are drawn from all walks of life. To spur our students into a tireless pursuit of excellence, we always leave them with this remark, “That you are classmates today doesn’t mean you will end up as mates tomorrow. Excellence shows the difference”.

A school of thought notes that beauty doesn’t ultimately consist in physical outlook but in character. The implication of this is that the quality of an individual’s character goes a long way to mark him or her out as a responsible personality in his or her community. There is no contending the truth that our society is this bad because there is obviously a crisis of good character. Given this reality, one doesn’t need to be amazed any longer as to why vices outnumber virtues in our society. For us to play our role in puncturing the big baloon of waywardness which pervades all strata of our society, we encourage out students, through exemplary leadership, to arm themselves with quality of character. This, we believe, will make them shine in the midst of darkness anywhere they find themselves.

Rosebud School, consisting of the pre-school primary, secondary Junior and High Schools (‘O’ and ‘A’ levels) for children between the ages of 3 – 18 is an answer for parents searching for world class, Afro – centric education that would place their children on a platform to attain great heights.

What began as a day-care centre has, like the proverbial acorn, grown into a mighty oak with its branches spreading to and having an influence that spans the continents of Africa and Europe. Rosebud School offers the Nigerian, British and American curricula. The Rosebud Kiddies School, comprising the Nursery/Primary Section took off in September, 2006. The assertion by Aristotle, that “whoever opens a school door, closes the door to a prison”, triggered the founders’ unquenchable thirst to educate the youths further by opening wide the gates of the secondary arm, Rosebud College, in 2008 to welcome its first set of students into JSS 1 and JSS 2.

Since the admission of its first set of students, the school has gained a reputation for academic excellence, including inculcating the right values in its students and equipping them for life. Knowing that change is the only constant thing in life, the school has consistently updated itself to stay abreast of education best practice by constantly producing students who have performed astonishingly well in their various fields of endeavor. The quality of education offered in Rosebud School is evident in the school’s resolve to add craft and other creative activities to the school’s curriculum with little or no cost. Both information and communication Technology[ICT] and vocational skills are integral part of learning in Rosebud School. The school believes that learning is an unbroken activity that is continued throughout an individual’s life. Education, therefore, should foster independent thinking, exploration and experimentation as a life – longprogress.

Mrs. C.F Aderogba, the Proprietress, is at the heart of the divine success story behind the founding of the Rosebud School. She is a woman called to serve with excellence as her watch word. She has a great passion for education and a brighter future for Nigeria. An unassuming and humility typified woman, her open door policy, motherly affection benevolent nature, coupled with an indomitable spirit and love for children and youths are some of the qualities that endear her to children, staff and parents. This is why all and sundry give her the name “Mummy”. She is often heard saying that, “In training a child to inculcate in him a sense of excellence in achieving greater heights, in making an impact in world around him in any field of his choice, a teacher must be able to make every effort to do what leads to peace and mutual edification in the society, thereby, building a strong nation”. An educationist and teacher, whose teaching experience spans over three decades,Mrs. Aderogba is a spiritual mentor with many educational merit awards at her disposal. Her knack for servant – leaders style of administration with the passion to do what leads to peace and mutual edification has always been the key to the school’s success story.

  • 4. Social Habit and Etiquette
  • 5. Rhymes and songs
  • 6. Elementary Science

In our classrooms we use age appropriate activities and learning tools, to create a flexible environment to meet the needs and interests of every child in our care. While we strongly feel that Pre-School years need to be full of nurturing and praise, we take pride in teaching independence and preparing our children for the years ahead of them.

5 to 10 years(Elementary School)

Teaching from the age of 5 is by subject and is conducted by highly qualified specialist staff. This is a special feature of Rosebud School which gives children from an early age contact with subject specialists, not available to many children in other settings until secondary school. Our classes average around 20 pupils. Our curriculum and assessment procedures take into account the British and Nigerian Curricular Primary Framework. These include;

  • 1. Languages – phonics in English, Literature-in-English, English language, verbal reasoning,French language and traditional languages (Igbo, Hausa and Yoruba).
  • 2. Mathematics – from simple equations in arithmetic, quantitative reasoning to mathematical science.
  • 3. Sciences – Basic science and technology, computer education, physical and health education, Robotic and Lego science.
  • 4. Pre-vocational studies – agricultural science, home economics, needle works and knitting, wire works and landscaping, tailoring..
  • 5. National values (civics, security, etiquette and social studies) and religious studies
  • 6. Cultural and creative art and music
  • 7. Sporting activities – football, tennis, table tennis, basket ball, snookers, volley ball, hockey, swimming and indoor games.

Our school has devised standard assessment tests at Key stages 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. This gives us an objective assessment of each learner’s progress and allows us to monitor their academic performance. We have also introduced training in Computer Based Test (CBT) to our pupils.
These provide formative activities for the pupils within a carefully planned and structured environment in which the child can learn and grow at his/her own pace, along the lines of natural development, with the teacher acting as a guide, facilitator and an encourager.
Each day starts with a circle time of about 30 minutes. The child is given the opportunity and freedom to choose materials spontaneously from the Montessori shelves. The teachers move round the class to supervise the children’s work and assist them when necessary.

The five Montessori curriculum areas are:

Practical Life Exercises. These include elementary movements and preliminary activities such as classroom conduct, development of fine motor skills - pouring, transferring, sweeping, opening and closing; care of self, care of the environment and exercises for the development of social skills, grace and courtesy.

Sensorial Education. These develop the following senses of the child: chromatic (sense of colours), hearing, sight, smell, touch, taste and the muscular dimension (fine and gross control). Sensorial materials with control of errors help to refine the child’s senses.

Mathematics. Here, the child works with mathematics materials such as number rods, sand paper numerals, spindle boxes, golden beads, materials and sequence operations. The child uses the apparatus to compute simple addition, subtraction, division and multiplication of numbers.

Language. This includes oral language development, written expression, reading, writing and grammar. Basic skills in writing and reading are developed through the use of sandpaper and large movable alphabet. The child works with pink, blue and green series to develop writing, reading, listening and speaking skills.

Cultural Subjects, Here, the child is introduced to geography, biology, life sciences, music, art and movement through the use of didactic apparatus. The Montessori materials help the child to develop personality, adapt to his/her culture and become an independent, useful member of the society.

Through regular assessments, we monitor every child’s performance. Our staffs are trained to help find out each child’s challenges and regularly give extra help where it is needed cases like show writing, attention problem, behaviour challenges, bad hand writing etc. We monitor students’ progression closely and provide feedback to identify areas the child needs to improve.

Throughout the primary years, the aim is to achieve effectiveness in the core skills of reading, oral and written communication and dexterity with numbers. These are of prime importance and without which further progress can be inhibited. Through topics, themes and projects the pupils are also introduced to the world around them and trained in the understanding of life in its many and varied aspects. Using internationally accepted best practice, children are taught to inquire, to use and apply skills learned.

The population of the class is in tanden with the United Nations policy of having a maximum of twenty five students in a class, with two teachers attached to a class in the primary section. For excellent attention, attempt, sometimes, is made to divide the class into two to enhance teaching and forge proper teacher – student interactive forum.

This is brought about by the continuous development of our staff in other to meet the current demands of education. Apart from the employment of the best heads in the field of academics needed, we oversee training workshops for our teachers by bringing seasoned resource persons for seminars on the new trends of teaching with modern equipment. This has been on a regular basis at no extra cost on the part of the teaching and non – teaching staff of the school.
As a learning community, committed to academic excellence, we ensure that all our staff members receive continuous staff development to improve their standard and keep them at the forefront of educational thinking. This continuous development of our staff means that we can maintain excellent results, not just in Nigerian examinations but also on the international stage. The excellent results with good grade marks recently churned out by our students in their various examinations is a clear testimony to this.

A well defined academic curriculum needs to be complemented by a well structured programme that will enable us to pay attention to all subjects and other social activities, thereby forging harmonious learning and teaching. Our time – table runs to ten periods daily to be able to accommodate practical works. Every child is expected to undertake at least one hour of self – study everyday with take home assignment.

English is a key to perfect understanding of other subjects and a tool of communication. If the oral aspect as it relates to proper articulation of sounds is not properly taught and understood, the chance of passing well and making effective communication seems very slim.
Rosebud School offer a broad range of English Language teaching by specialist in phonics and diction to enhance their skills in English for excellent performance in all subjects and, even, provide a step up in their communication.

The Pre-School section of Rosebud School is a specially-prepared Montessori environment, laying a solid foundation for children aged 18 months to 5years. All our pupils follow an adapted form of the Montessori Method of child education which is regarded throughout the world as unsurpassed in its ability to help younger children achieve their full potential. Our Pre-School classes are divided into four levels:

  • 1. Flower Class (18 months+)
  • 2. The Roses 1 Class (2+)
  • 3. The Roses 2 Class (3+)
  • 4. The Roses 3 Class (4+)

  • i. Practical Life Exercises
  • ii. Sensorial education
  • iii. Mathematics
  • iv. Language
  • v. Cultural Subjects
